Cultivating our food

These days we have to look for healthier products, and those that are natural and healthy which are called “organic” are outside of our reach due to the high economic cost that they have, which is why we sometimes avoid them.

One recommendation so that you don’t spend so much money and still consume fresh and healthy products is to grow at home whatever you need or are used to eating.

Fortunately for us, the majority of Latinos are acquainted with growing fresh fruits and vegetables, given that our relatives cultivate and sometimes we ourselves have the chance to learn from them about cultivating land. But for those that don’t know how to, you can participate in cultivation classes by season in order to learn.

During the summer, the weather in Kansas City is a factor in favor of letting products grow easily. If only we made the goal of planting tomato, tomatillo, cilantro, and peppers, we would save money and eat products that are completely organic; that is, free from any chemical or preservative and which are good for our health.

But for those that don’t have available space with sunlight, there is a possibility of renting a space in a community garden and the cost is symbolic. If you’re motivated to cultivate, look for us in order to help you. Community Health Promoters at El Centro, Inc. 913-677-0100.
