Learning to combine and balance foods
Feb. 2 has already passed, a very dangerous date to fall into the temptation of overeating.
With the excuse of a meeting (of a religious nature, because it is the Day of La Candelaria, although sometimes it is not) we find a reason to get together as a family and enjoy tamales and other foods. And it’s not bad, the bad thing is that we don’t restrain ourselves in the amount of tamales or the combinations we make.
Some people prepared tacos for that same day, others accompanied the tamales with rice, probably others decided to make ‘atole’ (cornflour drink). All these foods are in the group of grains and, without realizing, we are consuming them in excess, and not only this day, but we do it daily.
How many times do you prepare delicious breaded chicken breasts and accompany them with succulent creamy spaghetti and fried potatoes?
This dish was not balanced. The food is not bad, the bad thing are the combinations we make and the portions we consume. The dish would have been better if we left the breaded chicken breast, but accompanied it with a green salad.
For example, in the case of the tamales, eat only one, and without atole.
We can no longer no longer stay unaware of what group each food belongs to in order to make good combinations and eat in a balanced way. That's what our health depends on. We recommend you to participate in healthy eating classes, it is a good time to change habits.
