Cinnamon and diabetes
Kansas has been overtaken by the winter’s cold, so people have already brought out their winter clothes; and as it gets dark at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, many people at home drink more hot drinks in the evening.
The most common hot drinks are coffee and cinnamon tea, the bad thing is that we almost always accompany them with sweet bread.
Lately we have learned that some people attribute magic effects to cinnamon that it doesn’t actually produce, and medicinal properties that it doesn’t have.
Unfortunately, some of these cases are people who have diabetes and comment that they received the recommendation of another person with the same disease and gave testimony of their improvement thanks to the daily consumption of cinnamon tea. This situation is worrisome because cinnamon tea does not stabilize blood glucose or cure diabetes.
Diabetes is a chronic disease and it is necessary that people suffering from it, learn to control it with the help of an adequate diet for their condition and take the medicine that their doctor prescribed.
We recommend that if there are any people with diabetes in your family, they participate in a class-guide to take control of the disease. There are several available in Spanish. If you need more information, contact a Community Health Promoter at El Centro Inc. at 913-677-0100.
