Recent trips to DC
On March 6, members of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce attended the Latino Coalition’s Legislative Summit in Washington DC.
This was an incredible opportunity for the Chamber members to connect with our national partners and meet with elected officials that represent our communities. During the Summit, Vicente Fernandez was given a lifetime achievement award and some of our members had the opportunity to meet and congratulate him.
In addition to the Legislative Summit, the Chamber members were able to lobby on Capitol Hill. Some of the topics discussed with the legislators was immigration reform, the needs of the Hispanic business community, and economic development.
Ivan Duin-Obregon, a Hispanic Chamber board member, and Hispanic Chamber member Luciano Duque, were able to attend a hearing about the crisis in Venezuela which is their country of origin. The Chamber members were also able to sponsor the Young Latino Professionals to be in attendance as well.

On April 2 and 3, the Hispanic Chamber members went back to DC to attend the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Legislative Summit.
At this event, they were able to learn from national business leaders, meet with our counterparts from other Hispanic Chambers, and work with the United States Hispanic Chamber on how to help the Hispanic community together. The members in attendance were able to meet with more legislators to lobby for business community issues and immigration issues that affect our communities here in the Kansas City metro area.
These experiences are valuable for our membership, as well as the Hispanic community at large, due to the fact that it brings the conversation to Washington and it catalyzes action through dialogue and exposure.
It is important to stay involved and express our needs and the issues that our community cares about.
