Valentine’s Day
Today it is celebrated in many parts of the world, Valentine’s Day. It’s the occasion to send cards, give away flowers or chocolates, or invite a friend or loved one to eat lunch or dinner.
Like the majority of celebrations, merchants try to take advantage of this by offering anything from cards to flower gifts, even expensive jewels. It’s normal, they are doing their job, but it’s proven that the most valuable gifts and that will last the longest are those that are done manually, since they show time and special effort. We have to think a lot about the person that it’s directed towards and that in itself shows love.
It doesn’t mean that there are no pre-made gifts that won’t be appreciated by those who receive them (if not, ask yourselves if a woman would ever be mad when getting a diamond), but here the point is not to fall into the trap of “the most expensive gift is the one that shows the most love.”
It’s a bit ironic that among friends we can celebrate Valentine’s Day, but among races, religions and countries we continue to have such differences.
Could it be that some day the hate can stop and we can live in peace? There will be some who think that this is cultural or about education, but it turns out that even in the “most educated and prepared” countries, there are also spiteful, envious, and possessive people that don’t want to share what they have accomplished (whether it be with effort, work or luck) with those who have less, which can be merely circumstantial. Maybe that’s part of human nature, since even within “homogenous” groups of the rich and educated or among the poor of the same religion, there are always differences; even more so with groups different from them.
That’s something in which humans still have a lot to do, for now let’s celebrate love and friendship with those that we can.
