The cold has arrived
We are in the third week of November and there have already been two snowfalls in the city, which had not happened for many years.
Let’s be clear: cold weather is horrible!
We live here and things are the way they are; but frankly the winter weather is not something that the population in general likes. If that were the case, most people would prefer to live in Alaska rather than in California. But the fact is that there are some 740 thousand people living up there in the extreme north and almost 40 million live in California (remember that in Kansas we are just under 3 million).

Of course the snowfalls have their charm and the landscape offers spectacular views, but driving on the icy road, or simply going out to the supermarket, requires a lot of caution and effort.
The other part are the respiratory diseases, so common at this time; the depression caused by the lack of light these days; the discomfort due to the layers of clothes that we must wear and the inconveniences of removing ice and snow.
But not everything is bad, some of the good things for our health are that it improves the quality of the air a lot, because without so much heat Ozone is not generated; the amount of insects drastically decreases; and you sleep better with cold weather.
Also, the weather is one thing and quite another is the season. The end of the year brings with it a series of family reunions starting with Halloween and the Day of the Dead, followed by Thanksgiving, the festivities of Our Virgin of Guadalupe, the Posadas, and finally the holiday shopping and preparations for Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.
Let’s take care of ourselves and our children in order to prevent diseases, and enjoy it the “American” way by watching Christmas movies and television shows; or “our” way with board games or paying visits to family and friends to prepare parties and ‘posadas.’
