While visiting a campus, explore Greek Life
Among the things that prospective students and their families should investigate when they visit college campuses is Greek Life – the fraternity and sorority community. Greek Life draws men and women into fraternities and sororities all across the country.
Being a part of a fraternity or sorority opens up a vast array of networking opportunities, which can be very helpful when it is time to start searching for a job or look for an internship. National statistics cited by USA Today show that 85 percent of Fortune 500 executives belongs to a fraternity or sorority.
A fraternity or sorority also creates a sense of family. Members are there to support each other through good times and bad.

Another benefit is academics: Greek organizations take academics seriously. Nationally, fraternity and sorority members have higher graduation rates, retention rates, and higher GPAs than non-Greek students. Organizations also offer scholarships to assist with college expenses. College graduation rates are 20 percent higher among Greeks than non-Greeks, according to statistics published by USA Today.
FHSU is committed to Greek Life with the addition of Tiger Village in the fall 2017, a private Greek life housing project that provides state-of-the-art facilities to two sororities and one fraternity. Greek organizations at FHSU regularly attend national conferences and send selected students to them at little to no cost to the students.
At Fort Hays State, in the spring 2018 semester, members of the Greek chapters also completed over 3,040 hours of service to the larger Hays community and raised more than $14,000 for charity.
Fraternity and sorority life has a lot to offer, as students and as people. When you visit a campus, be intentional about exploring the opportunities available for Greek Life.
