Health insurance is a good thing

I am a big fan of Martha Stewart, the guru of everything organized, crafty, etc. Martha's always had a "Good Thing" feature in her magazine and on her show. So, in Martha Stewart spirit, I am going to talk about the Market Place, Health Insurance and our safety net.

People are afraid of applying for benefits right now, because the Trump administration is talking about going after people who are committing fraud or just being a drain on our system.

As I said a few weeks ago in this column, it is important to tell the truth on government applications for benefits, and, yes, committing fraud can turn out to be a huge problem, but we are lucky to live in a Country that has a safety net.

Applying for insurance and paying monthly premiums through the Market Place is not going to hurt a person's chances for Citizenship. Receiving cash assistance from the government, or being in a nursing home and having it paid for by Medicaid is a problem. Health Insurance, through a private company, an employer or through the Market Place is a smart decision to make, and... a good thing.

Below is a chart that shows some of the categories of immigrants who are eligible for insurance through the Market Place. Don't pass it up, if you qualify for coverage.
