Kicking habits – Like illegal drug use
This morning, I am working on drugs. I am not ON drugs, but working on cases that involve drugs. You know, those illegal kind that cause some people problems with immigration. Even though some States have legalized marijuana for medical and even recreational use, it is still against Federal law. I believe that the law will change eventually, but for now, it is illegal.
A drug conviction, or even an admission that you have used illegal drugs, can be a reason for Immigration to deny an application for permanent status. Even if it was years ago; even if it was legal in the State where you purchased or ate the “pot” brownie, it is still a problem for Immigration.
Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroine and many other controlled substance violations will mean that the DOOR to the U.S. is locked shut. A person with a conviction will be inadmissible – kept out. So, parents – it is time to have the drug talk with your kids, because violations will be a problem.
But, there is another habit that we need to Kick. It is the KOCH habit. If you have time to come out to UMKC this Friday night or Saturday, there is a conference called “Kicking the Koch Habit.” The Koch brothers have funded many attacks on democracy throughout the U.S., and if you want to learn about how to resist the right wing assault on Americans, go to kkfi.org/conference for more information.
