Now is the time to start planning college visits
The junior or senior year of high school is a good time to start meeting with representatives of colleges and universities and visiting campuses to find out where they want to go to school. Fort Hays State University’s recent third annual Hispanic College Institute in June, which welcomed more than 70 students from all areas of Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado, is an example of a unique kind of opportunity to visit a campus, but there are others.
For high school juniors and seniors contemplating college, the new school year just ahead is a good time to start college visits.
Students will have the opportunity to meet Fort Hays State representatives during their visits to area high schools, and local college fairs. These local counselors are me, Erica Meneses, Wyandotte County and multicultural admissions counselor, and Katie Hindman, Eastern Kansas admissions counselor. We are available to help students with the college application process, and answer any questions about Fort Hays State University.
Two major events that take place in the fall are a free overnight senior bus trip to FHSU’s campus from Oct. 21-22, which involves free food, a tour of campus, and discussions with academic areas of interest, and “Tiger Day” on Nov. 10, which will give juniors and seniors the opportunity to visit campus with their families and learn more about life at FHSU.
Other institutions have their own opportunities. Check their websites for event listings and contact information.
Students are welcome to contact me at (785) 628-4503 and e_meneses@fhsu.edu, or Hindman at (785) 628-5724 and kjhindman@fhsu.edu with questions about these and other exciting opportunities, or for information about visiting our campus. We look forward to meeting with students and hope to see them all on campus soon!
