Immigration Court in Kansas City
The Immigration Court system has been in the news ALOT lately - probably more often than you really want, but there are thousands of reasons to pay attention. Over 720,000 cases are pending with the immigration court nationally. That number reflects at least 720,000 individuals, and some of those are family cases.
Step into the Immigration Court waiting room, and you will often see young and old, many countries represented. The Chief attorney of the U.S. holds the title of “Attorney General” and our current AG is Jeff Sessions. AG Sessions is making it his mission to streamline the deportation process, at the border and here in Kansas City.
How can he do that?
By pressuring the Immigration Judges to work faster, moving cases through without representation, without due process and notice. In some situations, where continuances are important, the government’s attorney is opposing EVERY request.

Oftentimes, unrepresented individuals in Court do not have much of a chance. This is where the Deportation Defense Legal Network comes in handy. This is a new organization here in town that is trying to find free lawyers (and TRAIN them), to help with every bond hearing case that needs a lawyer.
This network is doing great work, and if you want to find a way to help, you can volunteer, donate, visit court, accompany someone to court, or call the Attorney General’s office and give him your opinion about the lack of fundamental rights in the deportation process.
