TAX SEASON - My least favorite season
Yeah! Tax season is over and I hope that you all have been able to file your returns on time. It is an annual, painful experience, but for those who are lucky enough to get a refund, hope you use a portion of it to help support a worthy cause. I think that might be the best use of the Trump Tax Break - use the refund to support: Women's rights; Voter's Rights; Syrian Refugee support; or some worthy candidate for Congress. That is my plan and it makes me feel a little better about filing those tax returns.
Often, I hear the anti-immigrant folks talking trash about the undocumented neighbors and friends living here in our communities. Don't these Citizens know that these hard workers are helping to support our government with their hard-earned taxes and helping to keep Social Security afloat? It is a fact that many, many undocumented people who are working in the U.S. actually pay into the system, using a Tax-payer Identification Number. (ITIN).
Did you know that:
1. The Social Security Administration estimated about 3.1 million unauthorized immigrants worked and paid Social Security taxes in 2010.
2. Unauthorized immigrants and their employers generated about $13 billion in payroll taxes in 2010 and about $12 billion in 2014.
3. That we still do not know if President Trump paid any taxes during the past 5 years...? One little tip for our Government - if we keep removing the unauthorized immigrant workers, those billions of dollars are going to go away also!
I wholly support efforts to reform our outdated and/or unjust laws, and now that we have an updated Tax Bill, maybe Congress can turn their attention to passing an updated, just, logical Immigration Act. Just a thought - I hope some of these politicians running for office will take this under consideration. Reform is way past due.
