God is love, the rest is chaos

From the beginning of mankind, humans have tried to define the nature of God as a way to explain creation and the forces around them. In Egyptian mythology, the sun god, Ra, created himself from the primordial chaos, birthing humans out of his tears. For the ancient Greeks, Chaos was the first primordial deity. Gaia, the first goddess and mother of all, was created from this void. The Romans borrowed many parts of their religion from the Greeks and believed that Chaos was a formless mass where all the elements were void of order. In the Roman pantheon of gods, Gaia became Tellus, which means “Mother Earth,” and Zeus, the king of the Greek gods, became Deus, which means “god” in Latin.

The creation story of modern-day Christians starts in the first chapter of the Bible. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” (Genesis 1:1-2). From here, in different phases of time, God created the Universe and all of its elements, including the cosmos, nature, and humans.

In all of these religions, God is described as the source of order who creates from Chaos, Chaos being the void of order. So what is the nature of God? “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:8). It takes the power of love to create order out of chaos. God is Love!

Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, does not boast, is not proud, love does not dishonor others, it is not selfish, it is not easily angered, it holds no grudges. Love does not delight in evil but is happy with the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always endures.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

Chaos is the source of disorder and mayhem. Who is Chaos? Chaos is the devil himself! “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44).

Since the fall of man, Chaos has ruled the world in which we live. The natural state of humans is not love, harmony, or peace. Humans are prone to violence, are selfish, and prefer the lie over the truth. As a result, right is wrong and the lie is accepted as real. We live in Reverso World with Father Chaos as its god!

How is it that humans can make such great advances in such things as medicine and technology and yet throw tantrums like four-year-olds just to be right? Rather talking out a problem in order to come to the truth and solve it, humans run away from the problem while gossiping to the whole world about how mistreated they were. And gossip that is told behind a person’s back is received as the gospel truth. Worse, if you refuse to participate in gossip or lie for someone, you are scorned and rejected. Some world we live in where humans pray to and serve Father Chaos.

If you find that you are making decisions that are creating chaos in your life, know that you are praying to and serving Father Chaos. If you have people in your life that bring you chaos, then you have to accept that, again, you are praying to and serving Father Chaos. “Choose you this day whom ye will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15).

God is Love. The rest is Chaos.
