Living with faith
Lent ended, a time when many Catholics make promises about not doing things that they like or limit themselves in what gives them pleasure.
In all religions there are moments in which this type of "sacrifice" is made. But what is the goal of doing this?
The answer is the same for everyone: to please God, to show that we think of Him. But we also do it as a self-control for ourselves. And this is, perhaps, the most important part.
People who have faith follow a series of commandments that help them live more orderly and in harmony with other people.
On the other hand, having faith in God and that there is something after death gives more meaning to our existence. People who do not believe, see life as a simple period of time which is shortened as they get older. For them, the end is getting closer, while for the believers the existence doesn’t end, since there is a better life that only depends on us to reach it.
Unbelievers will say that it is false and that there is no proof that this is so; but the point is that religion does not require scientific approval. There are innumerable cases of facts that science can’t explain, but it is above them to say "it is the work of God".
Even the most recent studies in quantum physics question everything we thought was clear and logical. Even if the believers were wrong (which does not indicate absolute denial), a person who lives all his life according to what religion dictates is wrong? Is he/she living badly? Does he/she hurt someone?
A believer who has a difficulty always has the option of praying and asking God for help, and if he/she gets what he/she wanted, the non-believers will say that it was coincidence, but for those who asked for it and obtained it, it was thanks to the divine intervention.
It has happened to all of us that we were waiting with joy for an event for the weekend, and in the end we couldn’t attend to it, but ... who takes away all the excitement and joy that we experienced that week?
Living with faith gives hope, joy, peace and a reason to live.
