As the new multicultural recruitment admissions counselor at Fort Hays State University, my position includes recruiting multicultural students from various areas throughout Kansas and Colorado, but with a special focus on Wyandotte County and the Kansas City area as well as the state of Missouri.
My job is to help with the transition from senior year in high school to when they take their first steps on campus as a freshman in the fall. This mentorship includes the entire admissions process from applying for admissions, financial aid and completing housing contracts as well as completing class enrollment, all before the start of the freshman year.
I am, of course, here to help all students through the college process at Fort Hays State University, but my main focus is to assist under-represented populations and first-generation students who may need additional guidance.
A big part of this position at Fort Hays State is the annual Hispanic College Institute. One of my functions is to recruit students for the institute and then help facilitate the week long, on-campus experience to introduce Hispanic students to college and campus life. Enrollment for the third annual HCI this summer is already open to all Hispanic sophomores and juniors in high school.
Any interested students in the Hispanic College Institute, or students who may have questions about the admissions process at FHSU can contact me by phone at 785-628-4503 or by email to e_meneses@fhsu.edu.
