Moderate hoarders?

We are in the last weeks of snowfall and intense cold, and if we check the coats and jackets that we have in the closet, how many do we use? Probably, almost always, our favorite; sometimes, the one that we don’t like very much, but that is very warm; and a little forced, the one that we got as a Christmas present. And what about the others?

Just like these, surely we have many clothes that we never use, but we don’t throw it away, because it brings back memories; because we pay a lot for it and it hurts to let it go; or because we are going to use it “when we lose weight.”

And if we go around the kitchen, how many ‘tupperware’ do we have, that we really need? And what about the shoes? And the blankets? And the bags for the supermarket?

It is said that many of the people suffering from Hoarding Compulsive Hoarding Disorder, suffered from poverty or scarcity and now that they have, they have a hard time getting rid of things.

A lot of this happens to many Hispanics, when we finish with the contents of a jar, we wash it and keep it, and then use it with another food, just as we did — and some still do — with the candles’ vases, that when the wax run out, we washed and used as drinking glasses at the table.

And it is not that this is wrong, but in this system of consumerism in which we live, it’s absurd to reuse those products if for a few dollars we can buy a more practical and more complete set.

The time has passed when the same clothes were passed from the older brother to the younger brother, until it was really worn out and didn’t work for anyone; or like the parents' car, which lasted 20 or 30 years in the family.

You may think that you only have “a little mess” in some places of your home; but maybe without realizing it, you have too many things that you don’t need.

You have to practice the “disposal of objects” regularly. This frees you from burdens, gives you space and the opportunity to renew yourself.

There are many companies, organizations and associations that collect things in good condition and give them to those who really need them. Decide, donate what you do not need!
