Invitations coming soon for scholarship programs from Fort Hays State
Families of high school seniors who have applied for scholarships from Fort Hays State University will soon be receiving invitations to a program unique to FHSU —the annual Student Recognition Programs (SRP), events in 12 cities in Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska— to celebrate and recognize students who have been awarded scholarships to Fort Hays State for the coming academic year.
The 2018 Kansas City area SRP will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, in the Doubletree Hotel, 10100 College Blvd., Overland Park. Desserts will be served at the Kansas City reception.
High school juniors and transfer students and their families are also invited.
A highlight at each event is awarding scholarship certificates to high school seniors and transfer students, but another highlight is the opportunity for students and families to mingle with faculty, staff, alumni and each other before and after the scholarship presentations.
“The Student Recognition Programs are a great place for families to meet faculty members and get their questions answered,” said Tricia Cline, director of admissions at FHSU. “It’s also a great place for prospective students and families to meet other students who are potentially coming to FHSU in the future. This allows students to make a few college friends before they even arrive on campus.”
Scholarships include the $3,500 Presidential Award of Distinction, the $2,000 University Scholar Award, the $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award, and the $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award, which are given only to incoming freshmen enrolling in college for the first time, but each is renewable provided students maintain the minimum required academic standing.
Each program also features three drawings: one for a $400 FHSU Student Recognition Program Scholarship, another for a $600 textbook scholarship and the last one for a laptop computer.
The invitations to the Kansas City event should be arriving in early January.
