A Day to be Thankful

It is said that the tradition of Thanksgiving began in 1621, when more than 100 pilgrims arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts and were helped by the Wampanoag Indians, thanks to which the new arrivals had good harvests and managed to survive.

Here is the question... What would have happened if, when those immigrants arrived, the Indians would not have helped them? What if they had been told? “go back to your country, we live here.”

Maybe they would have died and the story would be different... at least in that place.

The intention of this, isn’t to create controversy, nor to mention injustice, because there has already been enough. The point is that although it was not a true story, (there are historians who think that the pilgrims never invited the Indians to celebrate and give thanks for what they had achieved), this initiated a tradition that, along with Christmas, has become one of the most anticipated and popular.

It is known that family reunions, in general, improve the sense of belonging, because one feels part of a group. In the meetings there is always dialogue, jokes and camaraderie like in no other moment, because we are with our loved ones. It is also the occasion when concerns and achievements are shared, and knowing what others do, creates more integration and support.

Thanksgiving dinner is something that children and adults enjoy, as well, and it is undoubtedly an experience that lasts for a lifetime.

We all have a lot to be thankful for. This year forget a little of the injustices of life and don’t worry about the “black Friday”, just enjoy with your family ...

Happy Thanksgiving Day!!!
