We are at the beginning of the Legislative Session for Kansas and Missouri Lawmakers —and already there is some funny business going on in Topeka and Jefferson City.
Numerous bills have been introduced that will make it harder for Immigrants to live in our states. For example, in Kansas, the legislators are once again trying to repeal In-State Tuition for undocumented college students. On the Missouri side, there are bills to increase criminal penalties for entering the U.S. illegally and to prohibit Sanctuary Cities.
The only way that our communities can defeat bills that are harmful, such as these, is to educate the public, make phone calls to our representatives, and sometimes, fill the hearing rooms in Topeka and Jefferson City to let them see the people they are impacting.
More than ever, it’s time to get involved to better the lives of our community members, neighbors and family —by keeping track of the negative actions taken by our lawmakers and by pushing for positive bills that will protect ALL of us.
