Like little sheep

It’s clear that from nature, human beings like to live in groups sharing and interacting with one another. Part of that interaction includes copying and following trends, customs and behaviors that others take on.

Unfortunately, these days many of our behaviors are determined by economic or political interests.

Companies spend a lot of money in psychological studies and marketing in order to know what the best way is to get us to buy their products, whether we need them or not.

It is known that politicians also invest a lot of money on companies that advise them so that they can know how to talk, what to say and even which colors to use in order to make a better impact.

Meteorologists tell us what type of clothes we should wear and also whether we can go out or not based on the weather (although many times they are emphatically wrong).

Now we also see pharmaceutical companies spending a lot of money on commercials telling us “that we need to ask our doctor for a prescription.”

All of this seems so normal to us already that that we don’t notice that in some way they are manipulating us so that we do what they want.

Seeing and listening to constant advertisements it part of our lifestyle. For example, for those of us who are passionate about NFL games, we know that in order to watch them we need to accept constant predetermined commercials, whether that be because of interruptions to the game or because of commercial cuts, where it is the game that has to wait until the commercials take a break.

There are some who say that “it is the sport made for television”, but in reality it is the game that is “made for commercials.”

The point is that whether it be on television, radio or billboards on the street, we are under a constant bombardment of products and people that tells us what we should do or what is the best so that we live in the best way, all according to their own interests.

That is how we live and this is part of modern society.
