Behold the Babe King!

Have you ever wondered why Christ chose to come to His Earth as an innocent baby, taking on the sufferings that are inevitable with being human while having the nature of God? Why did Christ not choose to be born as God complete, in full stature and glory, to save God’s children from the dark side of their human nature?

The simple answer is the fact that everything about life on earth is a process. For example, with humans, life begins as a single cell in the womb that immediately begins to divide and grow. Approximately nine weeks later, development moves from the embryonic stage into the fetal stage where the form begins to appear more human with distinct arms and legs and even earlobes. After about 280 days, a fully developed human baby is born and immediately begins its life’s journey outside the womb. As the baby continues to evolve and grow, he learns to crawl, to walk, and then to run. If the child gets it right, she will start to “fly.” So how does a spirit evolve from being a one-celled being to spiritually flying like our Father in Heaven?

I will first explain this by talking about angels. If you believe in the concept of angels and that we all have a guardian angel, then the question would be where do these angels come from? Another planet? Another dimension? Straight from heaven? Moreover, how does an angel acquire their “wings?” Is not an apprenticeship the best way to learn a profession or craft? How about by working in a residency or fellowship training program? In other words, does it not make sense that the best way for an angel to learn how to best help humans is to first be human? So what better training is there than to actually live side-by-side with humans, living the human experience with them, the suffering along with the joy? It is this human experience that provides an angel-in-training exactly what he or she needs in order to grow, develop, and then graduate into a full-fledged angel … all for the purpose of being able to divinely guide, protect, inspire, and bring joy to humankind.

Christ knew that as part of our step-by-step ascension-into-heaven process, we did not need a human who thought he was God. We needed a God who knew he could be human. Christ became human to live like us and, in this way, show us how to love like God.

Of course, God’s angels knew the importance of the birth of Christ as a divine yet human baby king. “And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” (Luke 2: 7-14).

And from the day of his birth, “Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” (Luke 2:52).

How did Christ stay true to his divine nature while being human? With this simple way of living: “Bless. Expect nothing. Let it go. Receive everything.” (Mother Owl).

This Christmas, behold in your heart Christ, the Babe King! All God. All Human. All love!!!
