La Mega celebrates its first anniversary
La Mega 1160AM, La Mera, Mera is celebrating one year reaching the Hispanic community in Kansas City, offering a quality radio and with a top team.
Ana Nubia Hernandez and Yvan Duin —who have great experience in the broadcasting industry— decided to start this project; and after one year they are beginning to fulfill their goals: to be the media the Hispanic community turns to when they want entertainment, news, community issues, healthy fun and share with the most loved and known radio speakers in the area.T his is their story.
A year ago, Ana and Yvan Duin began the dream of having their own radio station. They decided to accept the invitation of the owners of the 1160AM and began what is now La Mega.
"El Gordo" Yvan told us that thanks to the support of his daughters Yvana, Yvanka and especially Dominique, who has been a great help to them, they decided to start this new challenge. Despite the constant changes of studios and not having the support of a network, the result has been satisfactory; people of Kansas City like it. The easiest thing was to put together the team because the area has professional staff that immediately sought to incorporate La Mega. They’re all passionate about their work, day by day they devote themselves to the public and make it easier to reach the goals that the media had traced.
For those who make La Mega, it has been a great opportunity. Here I present to you the opinions of some of the radio hosts that have made La Mega resonate this year and have made it sound stronger each day.

Nancy Flores “La Gaviota”: "Working at La Mega represents a great achievement. I’m very grateful to Ann and Gordo Yvan because they gave me the opportunity to realize one of my dreams. [They] trusted me and allowed me to prove that I could contribute something. I have had the opportunity to work with very professional people, like Rico Ricon, who has been very supportive. Through La Mega I've met many people; and most importantly I can help the community and learn along with the audience about all the programs and support that exist for us, Hispanics, in Kansas City.”

Perla Portales: “I’m very grateful to Ana and Yvan who had trust in me that I could do a good job, although I must admit it was not easy and I'm still learning from them, who are professionals. No doubt that being part of La Mega’s team is a blessing for me.”

Irene "La Nene" Ortega and Jose Luis "El Vaquero" Hernandez: "Working at La Mega 1160AM is wonderful. Although we have experience in another radio station, being at La Mega is something that complement us, strengthens us, and we are proud to work with this ‘MegaTeam’. Thanks to Ana Nubia and Gordo Yvan for the opportunity. We hope to share with them for many years and we will be eternally grateful.”

Kike Morales: "At La Mega I found a very united working-team, a station run by people who are humble, who work for the community and most importantly, who serve their listeners. Here, team effort is valued. I think Kansas City needed something like La Mega, with a variety of styles in broadcasting, always with the intention of serving the community and bring the best entertainment. I remember that when I met “El Gordo” Yvan he told me that helping the community was the most important thing, and that is very valuable.”

Federico "Rico Ricon" Vilchis: "At the invitation of a great radio professional, a dear friend that I also admire, Yvan Duin Obregon, I joined one of the most important projects of my life: LA MEGA 1160AM. This has been a great blessing because I had the opportunity to reconnect with old friends of the radio and to strengthen ties again with the public in this city. Happy Birthday to La Mega and I reiterate my commitment to continue improving; integrating our followers’ dialogue; and entertain, inform, and bring fun and everything that relaxes and entertains people, because ultimately they are the ones who have made it possible for us to celebrate one year of life and move on. Long live La Mega! Long live Kansas! Long live the listeners!”
